Black Swan is a psychological thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky, sreenplay by Mark Heyman, John McLaughlin and Andrés Heinz, and starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder, Barbara Hershey, Sebastian Stan, Kristina Anapau, Ksenia Solo, Toby Hemingway, Janet Montgomery, Christopher Gartin, Marcia Jean Kurtz. Natalie Portman won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Nina at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, 27th February, 2011.

Synopsis: Black Swan follows the story of Nina (Natalie Portman) a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her obsessive mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) a former ballerina who exerts a suffocating control over her. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But a new dancer, Lily (Mila Kunis), also impresses Leroy and becomes Nina’s competition. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan with her fiery personality. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

Begoña and I went to see Black Swan last Thursday. Nothing to write home about. I was left totally indifferent. I found the story empty. The recourse to a world of dreams is too easy, there is no need to explain a particular scene and, deliberately, the film keeps some ambiguity between reality and imagination, just for the sake of it. Only Natalie Portman’s interpretation can be saved from the mediocrity of the film.

Sinopsis: Cisne Negro narra la historia de Nina (Natalie Portman), una bailarina de una compañía de ballet de la ciudad de Nueva York cuya vida, como la de todos los de su profesión, está completamente dedicada a la danza. Nina vive con su madre, Erica (Barbara Hershey), una bailarina ya retirada que apoya con entusiasmo la ambición profesional de su hija. Cuando el director artístico Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decide sustituir a la prima ballerina Beth Macintyre (Winona Ryder) en la nueva producción de la temporada, “El lago de los cisnes”, Nina es su primera elección. Pero Nina tiene competencia: una nueva bailarina, Lily (Mila Kunis), que también ha impresionado gratamente a Leroy. “El lago de los cisnes” requiere una bailarina que pueda interpretar tanto al Cisne Blanco, con inocencia y elegancia, como al Cisne Negro, que representa la astucia y la sensualidad. Nina se adecua perfectamente al papel del Cisne Blanco, pero Lily es la absoluta personificación del Cisne Negro. Mientras la rivalidad entre las dos jóvenes bailarinas va transformándose en algo más que una encrespada relación, Nina empieza a conectar con su lado más oscuro, con una temeridad tal que amenaza destruirla.

Begoña y yo fuimos a ver Cisne Negro el pasado jueves. Nada del otro mundo. Me dejó totalmente indiferente. Me encontré con una historia vacía. El recurso a un mundo onírico es demasiado fácil, no hay necesidad de explicar ninguna escena en particular y deliberadamente mantiene cierta ambiguedad entre realidad e imaginación, sin más ni más. Sólo la interpretación de Natalie Portman se puede salvar de la mediocridad de la película.

Mi calificación: 4/10.
