The 2011 Vintage Mystery Reading Challenge, hosted by Bev Hankins at My Reader’s Block, runs from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. Sign up any time prior to November 30, 2011. All books must have been written before 1960 and be from the mystery category. I’m participating at In a Murderous Mood Level, which requires me to read 4-6 Books. So far I’ve read:
-
The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe
-
A Study In Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
-
Hickory, Dickory, Dock by Agatha Christie
Plan to read:
-
The Innocence of Father Brown by G K Chesterton
-
The Moving Target by Ross MacDonald
Murders in the Rue Morgue is, I believe, the first real locked-room mystery. It is a classic.
I didn’t intentionally join the vintage book challenge, but am on a roll reading Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe series; it’s a laugh out loud, easy, relaxing reading treat.
