Readers of this blog may be interested in this article HERE published in the Journal of Italian Translation Volume I, Number 2, Fall 2006. Pages 13 -24. (In pdf.) A very interesting insight for a better understanding of Camilleri, in my opinion.

  1. This is a book about an Italian police officer and the Italian language is translated as New Jersey crime idioms. This is an example of page 10. What was the translater thinking?
The DVDs with the subtitles don’t translate in this manner. Thank the Lord.
Example: “Chief, y’gotta unnastand, ‘s was Isspector Augello ‘at call me and tell me to tell yiz yer poissional presence’s ‘ndisposable. An’ so, seein’ as how’s was no answer when I tried a call yiz onna phone, I took the Jeep and come out here poissionally in poission”
