Female writers have always played an important role in British crime fiction. Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Ruth Rendell and PD James, have marked the path from detective fiction to mystery thrillers. Among the actual British female crime writers, I’m interested in Belinda Bauer, S J Bolton, Ann Cleeves, Frances Fyfield, Elly Griffiths, and Denise Mina (particularly her Garnethill trilogy).
