A young man walks into a bar and spots a woman he recognises. After a while he approaches her and they start talking. No one pays attention to them. nor even when they leave the bar. By then, the drug is already working. He had slipped a pill into her glass. They were getting along fine, and he was sure she will give him no trouble.
Two days later the body of a young man is found slain in his flat. There is a great deal of blood around, but there are no signs of struggle. The front door has not been forced. The victim has some tablets of Rohypnol, the date rape drug, in his pocket.
Detective Erlendur has taken a leave of absence and Elinborg takes over the investigation. She is in a difficult position; she has to combine her family life with the demands of her job. But her investigation will uncover a history of drugs dealers, rape and unsolved disappearances. Some crimes have more than one victim. And life will never be the same for the people involved.
Outrage is the ninth instalment in the Reykjavik mystery series but the seventh available in English. It is a solid police procedural, with a clever plot. The characters are credible and the resolution is subtle and more than satisfying. An excellent contribution to an already superb series.

Un joven entra en un bar y ve a una mujer a la que reconoce. Después de un rato se le acerca y empiezan a hablar. Nadie les presta atención. ni siquiera cuando salen del bar. Para entonces la droga ya esta trabajando. El le había deslizado una pastilla en su vaso. Se estaban llevando bien, y esta seguro de que ella no le va a dar ningún problema.
Dos días después el cuerpo de un hombre joven es encontrado degollado en su apartamento. Hay una gran cantidad de sangre alrededor, pero no hay señales de lucha. La puerta de entrada no ha sido forzada. La víctima tiene algunas tabletas de Rohypnol, la droga de la violación, en su bolsillo.
El detective Erlendur se ha tomado un permiso para ausentarse y Elinborg se hace cargo de la investigación. Ella está en una posición difícil; tiene que combinar su vida familiar con las exigencias de su trabajo. Pero su investigación descubrirá una historia de traficantes de drogas, violaciones y desapariciones sin resolver. En algunos delitos hay más de una víctima. Outrage es la novena entrega en la serie de misterio de Reykjavik, pero es el séptimo libro disponible en inglés. Se trata de un procedimiento policial sólido y con un argumento inteligente. Los personajes son creíbles y la resolución del caso es sutil y más que satisfactoria. Una excelente contribución a una serie excelente.
