Best new-to-me crime fiction authors: April to June 2012

In the second quarter I read fifteen crime fiction books, seven (46,67 %) from ‘new (to me anyway)’ authors. A Dark Redemption by Stav Sherez, Where the Devil Can’t Go by Anya Lipska, El verano de los juguetes muertos de Tony Hill (English title: The Summer of Dead Toys), The Woodcutter by Reginald Hill, I Will Have Vengeance by Maurizio de Giovanni, The Rage by Gene Kerrigan, and 31 Noches de Ignacio Escolar.

I want to highlight three authors, in two cases it was their debut novel: Anya Lipska, Stav Sherez and Tony Hill, and I had the opportunity to discover Reginald Hill, an acclaimed author whose work I had not yet read. But for my taste, The Rage is one of the best novels I’ve read so far this year. In any case I’m glad to have had the opportunity to read them all.

Gene Kerrigan is an Irish journalist and novelist who grew up in Cabra in Dublin. His works include political commentary on Ireland since the 1970s in such publications as Magill magazine and the Sunday Independent newspaper. He was chosen as World Journalist of the Year in 1985 and 1990, and has written books, including fiction and non-fiction. (From Wikipedia).
