I picked up this book (close to a novella in size) thanks to the suggestion of one of the bloggers whose reviews I have in great esteem, and I don’t regret it. Thank you Rob. In fact it’s one of the most original books I’ve come across recently. Anonymous-9 is the nom de plume of Elaine Ashe, the former editor of Beat To A Pulp. The story is summarised at the author’s website as follows:
Dean Drayhart lost everything to a hit and-run driver—his wife, child and legs. Now a paraplegic, he unleashes payback on suspected hit-and-runners in Los Angeles with helper-monkey Sid as his deadly assistant. Dean is a vigilante with a moral code—fighting a private war apart from sheriffs, deputies and the rules that bind them. When Dean murders a man tied to the Mexican Mafia, revenge and mayhem bust loose, forcing the lone man in a wheelchair up against blood-thirsty drug-cartel carnales and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. Dean and Sid launch their best weapons—wits and will—against near-impossible odds as the story twists and turns to a heart-pounding showdown.

When I did read it, I immediately knew I had to finish it. All in all I found it a fascinating and refreshing read, highly engaging. I’m quite sure it’s nothing similar to what you may have read before. And I eagerly await to what Anonymous-9 will offer us, next. Not for the fainthearted but highly recommended.

Tomé este libro (casi del tamaño de un novela corta) gracias a la sugerencia de uno de los bloggers cuyos comentarios tengo en gran estima, y no me arrepiento. Gracias Rob. De hecho, es uno de los libros más originales que he encontrado recientemente. Anónimo-9 es el pseudónimo de Elaine Ashe, antigua editora de Beat To A Pulp. La historia se resume en la web del autor de la siguiente manera:
Dean Drayhart ha perdido todo por culpa de un conductor que se dió a la fuga, su esposa, su hija y sus piernas. Parapléjico ahora, pretende vengarse de los sospechosos que se dan a la fuga después de causar un accidente en Los Ángeles con la ayuda de un mono, Sid, su mortal asistente. Dean es un vigilante con un código moral que lucha en una guerra privada fuera de las normas que rigen a las fuerzas del orden. Cuando Dean mata a un hombre vinculado con la mafia mexicana, se desata la violencia y la venganza, un hombre solo en silla de ruedas tiene que hacer frente a un cártel de drogas sediento de sangre y al Departamento de policía de Los Ángeles. Dean y Sid lanzan sus mejores armas: su ingenio y su voluntad, contra probabilidades casi inexistentes mientras que las vueltas y los giros de la historia se convierten en un enfrentamiento emocionante.
Si esto no es suficiente para abrir el apetito, se puede leer AQUI la primera página. Les puedo garantizar que ustedes no serán capaces de quedarse allí. Cuando lo leí, supe inmediatamente que tenía que terminarlo. Con todo me pareció una lectura fascinante y refrescante, muy atractiva. Estoy bastante seguro de que no se parece en nada a cualquier cosa que usted haya podido leer con anterioridad. Y espero con impaciencia lo que Anonymous-9 nos vaya a ofrecer a continuación. No es apta para pusilánimes pero muy recomendable.
