File:Nebraska Poster.jpgNebraska (2013) is an  American road movie directed by Alexander Payne. It is based on a story written by Bob Nelson and starring Bruce Dern, June Squibb and Will Forte. The film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where Bruce Dern won the Best Actor Award and has received 6 Academy Awards nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Payne, Best Actor for Bruce Dern, Best Supporting Actress for June Squibb, and Best Original Screenplay. It was released in Spain on 7 February 2014.

Storyline: After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he’s struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune, from Billings (Montana) to Lincoln (Nebraska). Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.

Begoña and I went to see Nebraska last Sunday. I found the film at once realistic, sensitive and entertaining. The characters are fully credible and the interpretation of all the actors is first class. A small gem.

Living Is Easy With Eyes Closed Tops Spain’s Goya Awards

David Trueba’s Living is Easy With Eyes Closed was the big winner at the 28th Goya Awards ceremony, landing the Spanish Film Academy’s two top prizes — best film and best director — on Sunday night.

Trueba’s film, based on the true story of an English teacher who motivated his students using Beatles music, beat out Gracias Querejeta’s 15 Years and a Day, Manuel Martin Cuenca’s Cannibal, Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s Family United and Fernando Franco’s Wounded.
