Nebraska (2013) is an American road movie directed by Alexander Payne. It is based on a story written by Bob Nelson and starring Bruce Dern, June Squibb and Will Forte. The film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where Bruce Dern won the Best Actor Award and has received 6 Academy Awards nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Payne, Best Actor for Bruce Dern, Best Supporting Actress for June Squibb, and Best Original Screenplay. It was released in Spain on 7 February 2014.
Storyline: After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he’s struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune, from Billings (Montana) to Lincoln (Nebraska). Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.
Begoña and I went to see Nebraska last Sunday. I found the film at once realistic, sensitive and entertaining. The characters are fully credible and the interpretation of all the actors is first class. A small gem.
