Relatos Salvajes ha sido seleccionada como la candidata Argentina a la Mejor Película Extranjera en la 87a. edición de los Premios Oscar (en inglés Premios de la Academia)

Sinopsis

La desigualdad, la injusticia y la exigencia del mundo en que vivimos producen que muchas personas se estresen o se depriman. Algunas de ellas explotan. Esta es una película sobre ellos. Vulnerables ante una realidad alterada e imprevisible, los personajes de Relatos salvajes cruzan la frontera que divide la civilización de la barbarie. Una historia sobre una decepción amorosa, un retorno, una tragedia en la que incluso la violencia de un detalle cotidiano es el detonante que puede conducir a estos personajes hasta el abismo, hasta el innegable placer que produce perder el control.

“Mientras desarrollaba otros proyectos fui escribiendo una serie de narraciones breves con total libertad. Al reunirlas en un único volumen, advertí que estaban vinculadas por un conjunto de temas que les conferían unidad y cohesión: hablamos de la difusa frontera que separa a la civilización de la barbarie, del vértigo de perder los estribos y del innegable placer de perder el control. Este proyecto involuntario se volvió tan consistente que rápidamente trepó en urgencia y encontró su esquema de producción”, dice el director.

“La multiplicidad de relatos me conecta directamente con el momento en que adquirí el placer por la lectura. Recuerdo como si fuera hoy el descubrimiento, en la biblioteca familiar, de un grupo de antologías del Círculo de Lectores que cautivaron mi atención: Relatos maestros del crimen, Relatos maestros de misterio y Relatos maestros de terror. Cada título, en el índice, sugería un nuevo enigma y todo otro universo; era como cuando un familiar regresaba de viaje y traía una valija llena de regalos. Más tarde, llegarían los Cuentos asombrosos producidos por Spielberg, las Historias de New York de Scorsese, Coppola y Woody Allen y los 9 cuentos de J.D. Sallinger. Las huellas que todas estas obras dejaron sobre mi consciencia configuraron el espacio que hoy me invita al juego, la libertad creativa, y la experimentación”, reveló Szifron. Y concluyó: “Es un honor contar con el apoyo y entusiasmo de Kramer & Sigman Films, El Deseo y Warner, y que el mejor elenco imaginable se esté preparando para darle vida a estos relatos”.

Como cualquier persona, que haya leído mi post anterior aquí, podría imaginar, yo estaba muy interesado en ir a ver esta película y Begoña y yo tuvimos esa oportunidad el pasado lunes. No me ha decepcionado. Consta de seis historias independientes de longitud desigual: Pasternak, Las ratas, El más fuerte, Bombita, La propuesta y Hasta que la muerte nos separe. En particular me ha gustado mucho Bombita, me lo he pasado muy bien con Hasta que la muerte nos separe y La propuesta nos presenta un magnífico retrato sobre la corrupción. Nos lo pasamos muy bien y nos hizo pensar. Muy recomendable.

Relatos Salvajes has been selected as the Argentine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Award.

Synopsis

Inequality, injustice and the demands of the world we live in cause stress and depression for many people. Some of them, however, explode. This is a movie about those people. Vulnerable in the face of a reality that shifts and suddenly turns unpredictable, the characters of Wild Tales cross the thin line that divides civilization and barbarism. A lover’s betrayal, a return to the repressed past and the violence woven into everyday encounters drive the characters to madness as they cede to the undeniable pleasure of losing control.

Director’s Note

These tales sprang from the most unrestrained corners of the imagination. While I was working to develop other projects – often dispirited by the fact that they were impossible to realize – I began writing a series of short stories to vent my frustrations. When I put them together in one volume, I realized that they were connected by a series of themes that provided unity and coherence: they were all about catharsis, vengeance and destruction. And the undeniable pleasure of losing control.

I frequently think of Western capitalist society as a sort of transparent cage that reduces our sensitivity and distorts our bonds with others. Wild Tales presents a group of individuals who live within this cage without being aware of its existence. But at that point where most of us would repress – or get depressed – these people shift into gear.

This involuntary project came together so quickly that it rose on my list of priorities and found a framework for production.

The telling of multiple stories represented an act of liberation for me, because it brought me back to falling in love with reading. I remember it as if it were yesterday: discovering in the family library a set of fiction anthologies that got my attention: Tales by the Masters of Crime, Tales by the Master of Mystery, and Tales by the Masters of Terror. Later would come “Amazing Stories” (produced by Spielberg), “New York Stories” (by Scorsese, Coppola and Woody Allen) and J.D. Salinger’s “Nine Stories”. The paths that all of these works forged in my consciousness configured my current space for creative liberty and experimentation.

As anyone, who has read my previous post here, could imagine, I was quite interested to go and see this film and Begoña and I had that opportunity last Monday. It hasn’t disappointed me. It has six independent stories of unequal length: Pasternak, The Rats, The Strongest, Little bomb, The proposal and Until death do us part. In particular I enjoyed a lot Little bomb, Until death do us part made me laugh very much and The proposal offers an excellent portrait on corruption. We had a great time and it made us think. Highly recommended.
