Laurie Thompson in Memoriam

I deeply regret the sad news about the passing of Laurie Thompson last Monday evening. According to Wikipedia, Laurie Thompson (1938 – 2015) was a British academic and translator, noted for his translations of Swedish literature into English. Thompson was born in York, England, and lived in northern Sweden for a few years. He was the editor of Swedish Book Review between 1983 and 2002, and a lecturer at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and the University of Wales, Lampeter.

Laurie Thompson was the distinguished translator of novels by Henning Mankell, Hakan Nesser and Asa Larsson. For additional information just click on SELTA The Swedish-English Literary Translators’ Association.

  1. This is very sad news. Thanks Jose Ignacio for the information. Laurie Thompson’s translations gave English mono linguists such pleasure and were a major factor in the rise of Scandinavian crime fiction in the UK.

  2. Oh, this is sad news! I am very sorry to hear it, José Ignacio. Thompson was such a skilled translator and will be much missed.
