Organized by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, Fundación Mapfre Madrid, and the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, the exhibition Bonnard, will be open in Madrid ,from 19 September 2015 to 10 January 2016, at Recoletos Exhibition Hall, Paseo de Recoletos, 23
Bonnard is the first retrospective of Pierre Bonnard’s work to be held in Spain for over 30 years. The exhibition presents around eighty paintings, a dozen drawings and some fifty photographs, most of which have never been exhibited before in this country, kindly loaned by over thirty public and private collections.
Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) was a key figure at the time of the birth of Modern Art as well as being an artist whose deeply individual oeuvre is difficult to classify. A founding member of the symbolist group Les Nabis, his contributions proved to be fundamental to understanding the transition between Post-Impressionism and Symbolism at a time when painting was undergoing a radical revolution in terms of the use of color.
Begoña and I have had the opportunity to visit this exhibition today. Highly recommended.
