Currently: The Hog’s Back Mystery (Inspector French #10) by Freeman Wills Crofts.

About this book: One 14 January, the day before the sale by public auction of a farm of the kind known as cabanes in the area, a crime has taken place at Le Pont-du-Grau inn, in the Vendeé. Coincidentally, Maigret was at the time the head of the crime squad in Nantes and he takes charge of the investigation. The victim, a certain Borchain, was a peasant from nearby Angoulême who had come to Pont-du-Grau with the intention of participating in the auction.
